Chapter breakdown
Isaias 9 distinguishes first light touching Zabulon/Nephtali and later heavy loading sea-way beyond Jordan, Gentile Galilee. Dark-walking people see light and death-shadow dwellers rising light. The admitted line says nation multiplied and joy not increased, followed by harvest/spoil-sharing rejoicing. This tension remains. Oppression yoke, shoulder rod and sceptre overcome as Madian; violent spoil-taking, tumult and blood-mingled garment burn.
Child born, son given and shoulder-government bear names Wonderful, Counsellor, God the Mighty, Father of world to come, Prince of Peace. Empire multiplies, peace endless on David's throne/kingdom established forever by judgment/justice and divine zeal. Separate edition heading interprets Christ; no fulfilled event is certified.
Divine word reaches Jacob/Israel. Proud Ephraim/Samaria propose square stones for fallen bricks, cedars for cut sycamores. Rasin enemies gather, Syrians east and Philistines west devour Israel, with wrath/outstretched hand persisting. Nonreturning people meet destruction of head/tail and bending/holding back in one day: aged honorable head, lying prophet tail. Blessing-givers mislead and blessed fall headlong. No joy in young or mercy fatherless/widows because all hypocrite/wicked and mouths folly; wrath refrain repeated.
Wickedness fire consumes briers/thorns/forest, smoke high. Divine wrath troubles land, people fuel, none sparing brother. Right-hand hunger and left-hand eating remain unsatisfied, everyone eats own arm's flesh; Manasses/Ephraim oppose each other and unite against Juda. Final wrath refrain persists. Literal civil-war diagnosis is not independently asserted beyond the oracle's images.
