How does the unwalled city accompany gathering?
Atlas of Saints · Chapter summary
The measuring vision leads to fire-wall protection, flight and many nations joining God.
Chapter breakdown
The heading interprets Jerusalem’s name through Christ’s church and conversion of some Jews and many Gentiles. Zacharias sees a man with a measuring line and asks his destination. The man intends to measure Jerusalem’s breadth and length. The speaking angel goes forth and another meets him, calling for a message to the young man: Jerusalem will be inhabited without walls because of its multitude of people and beasts. The edition explains this as spiritual Jerusalem, Christ’s church. God promises a surrounding wall of fire and glory within.
A summons calls for flight from the north, after dispersion into four winds, and from Sion dwelling with Babylon’s daughter. The speech says that after the glory he has been sent to nations that robbed them, and whoever touches them touches the apple of his eye. God lifts his hand and those nations become prey to their former servants; the recipients will recognize the Lord’s commission. Sion is called to praise because God comes to dwell within. Many nations join the Lord as his people; his presence and mission are affirmed. God possesses Juda as his portion in sanctified land and chooses Jerusalem again. All flesh must be silent before him as he rises from his holy habitation. The vision does not report a command to stop measuring, forbid masonry, or guarantee every believer physical immunity.
