¿Cómo llega Salomón a ser rey mientras Adonias ya es aclamado en su banquete?
Natán y Bethsabee llevan el asunto a David, quien confirma su juramento de que Salomón lo sucederá y manda ungir a Salomón aquel día. Cuando los invitados de Adonias oyen que Salomón ha sido ungido y está sentado en el trono, se van con miedo.
Explicación del capítulo
El rey David es viejo y no logra calentarse ni siquiera cubierto con vestidos. Sus servidores proponen buscar una joven virgen que esté ante él, lo cuide, duerma en su seno y lo caliente. Buscan una joven hermosa en todos los confines de Israel y le traen a Abisag, una sunamita. Es sumamente hermosa, duerme con él y lo sirve, pero el rey no la conoce.
Adonias, hijo de Haggith, se exalta diciendo que será rey. Se procura carros, jinetes y cincuenta hombres que corran delante de él. Su padre nunca lo ha reprendido preguntando por qué ha hecho esto. Adonias también es muy hermoso y el siguiente en nacimiento después de Absalom. Consulta con Joab, hijo de Sarvia, y Abiathar el sacerdote, quienes apoyan su partido. Sadoc el sacerdote, Banaias hijo de Joiada, Natán el profeta, Semei, Rei y la fuerza del ejército de David no están con él.

Bethsabee se inclina rostro en tierra, adora al rey y pide que su señor David viva para siempre.
David llama a Sadoc el sacerdote, Natán el profeta y Banaias hijo de Joiada. Les manda tomar a sus servidores, poner a su hijo Salomón sobre su propia mula y llevarlo a Gihon. Sadoc y Natán deben ungirlo allí rey sobre Israel, tocar la trompeta y decir: Dios salve al rey Salomón. Deben subir después de él; Salomón se sentará en el trono de David y reinará en su lugar como gobernante de Israel y Judá. Banaias responde Amén, pidiendo que el Señor, Dios de David, también lo diga. Pide que el Señor esté con Salomón como ha estado con David y haga el trono de Salomón más alto que el de David.

La historia del capítulo
Dos informes de realeza se encuentran en este capítulo. Adonias dice que será rey y reúne partidarios en un banquete donde lo aclaman. Natán dice a Bethsabee que David no sabe y llevan ante él la pretensión y el juramento anterior de David. David responde con una promesa de actuar aquel día y órdenes concretas para la unción y asiento de Salomón en el trono. La alegría pública después llega al banquete de Adonias. Jonatán explica su causa, añadiendo que Salomón ya está entronizado y David ha dado gracias a Dios por ver a su sucesor. Los invitados se dispersan y Adonias busca una promesa sobre su vida. Lecciones para recordar
- Bethsabee y Natán dan información concreta a David: quién está en el banquete, quién falta y qué está diciendo el pueblo. También preguntan por su juramento anterior y su elección de sucesor. 1:49. Then all the guests of Adonias were afraid, and they all arose, and every man went his way. 1:50. And Adonias fearing Solomon, arose and went, and took hold of the horn of the altar. 1:51. And they told Solomon, saying: Behold Adonias fearing king Solomon, hath taken hold of the horn of the altar, saying: Let king Solomon swear to me this day, that he will not kill his servant with the sword. 1:52. And Solomon said: If he be a good man, there shall not so much as one hair of his head fall to the ground: but if evil be found in him, he shall die. 1:53. Then king Solomon sent, and brought him out from the altar: and going in, he worshipped king Solomon: and Solomon said to him: Go to thy house.
