Chapter breakdown
Isaias 10 condemns unjust law-writing oppressing poor/humble causes, making widows prey and robbing orphans. Questions ask response, help and glory-storage at far visitation, bonds and slaughter, anger/outstretched hand remaining. Assyrian is wrath rod/staff sent for spoil and street-mire trampling deceitful nation; his intention differs, destroying many nations. He boasts princes kings, Calano/Charcamis, Emath/Arphad, Samaria/Damascus and idol kingdoms, anticipating same for Jerusalem. After divine Sion works proud heart and eyes face visitation; boast credits hand/wisdom, removed boundaries, prince spoils and toppled rulers, earth taken as nest eggs without movement/noise.
Axe/saw cannot exalt over user, rod/staff wood against lifter. Lord sends leanness among fat ones, burning under glory; Israel light/Holy One fire consume thorns/briers in one day, forest/hill glory soul-to-flesh and fearful flight. Trees few enough child records. Medical wasting sickness and all forests a literal army are interpretations, not supplied facts.
Israel/Jacob escapees cease leaning striker and lean truly on Lord; remnant converts to mighty God, sea-sand multitude cut short with overflowing justice. Separate edition note partly relates Hezekiah's survivors and partly Jewish remnant conversion to Christ, explaining reduced-number justice. Lord makes land consumption, comforts Sion not to fear Assyrian Egyptian-way staff, promises soon-ceasing indignation redirected to wickedness. Scourge resembles Madian/Oreb and rod over sea/Egypt. Burden/yoke removed and rots at oil; separate note calls oil sweet divine-mercy unction.
March names Aiath, Magron, Machmas carriage-store; separate note identifies Sennacherib's terror and sudden destruction. Hasty passage, Gaba lodging, Rama astonished, Saul's Gabaath fleeing, Gallim voice, Laisa attention, poor Anathoth, removed Medemena, Gabim courage and day remaining at Nobe precede hand shaken toward Sion/Jerusalem. Lord breaks earthen vessel with terror, cuts tall and humbles lofty, iron cuts thickets and Libanus high ones fall. Quoted notes retain exact admitted wording rather than alternate glosses.
